"This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper." - T. S. ELIOT
"The silhouette of the plane that crosses a leaden night sky portrayed on the cover of "Between Blood & Bone" reflects very faithfully the contents of the music, dark and impalpable, proposed by Stephen Holliger under the alias Swim Ignorant Fire.
Collecting four tracks, including unpublished and self-produced, on a limited edition cassette, the Chicago artist offers a significant cross-section of his dronic manipulations, resulting from the assembly of microsubes and guitar effects. The murky waves in the noisy raising of the initial "Tooth & Flood" and the expanded resonances of "Vessel" electric cords highlight the darker aspects of Holliger's creations, while the remaining two pieces reveal a somewhat epic character, in the form of drone elevations in progressive thickening, especially along the more than thirteen minutes of the final piece.
To be understood as a veritable essay of the expressive paradigm of Holliger, "Between Blood & Bone" reveals its imaginative skills and an extension of the register that draws majestic landscapes of atmospheric noise from the search for uncomfortable timbric joints." - Music Will Not Save You.com
